Daily Life: Coolest Bike Ever

Where was this adorable bike when my girls were little and we lived down the street from the grocery, library, etc.  It comes in black, creamy yellow and this baby blue.  LOVE IT!  Click the button to the right to find out more info about it.

So, the fun begins …

homepic

So, after having a meeting with the bank, it seems like all systems are a go, minus the getting in the building specs for their appraisal and a few other details.

This is the house we ended up chosing, which shockingly, my husband was the one who found this plan.  I searched and searched forever, and he finds a book in a store, notices this one and finds our best fit for our lot in a day.  We have a very small footprint to fit into, which also needed a master on the left side and a garage with a side entry on the right.  Furthermore, due to the subdivision restrictions, it had to be at least 1400 sq ft on the ground floor.  We were shooting for the smallest size our convenants would allow, and this plan (before bonus room) was the right size + 73 feet.

Originally we had wanted a bungalow home, but … it just didn’t seem to fit in with the other house in the neighborhood (I say all this, but we still have to get this house through final approval with them as well). The builder thinks it won’t be a problem though. The one next door looks like this:

picture-1

We would be to the right of this house … and I think they would look rather cozy by one another, though ours will be done in a darker brick than that (as in the picture I hope).

That driveway looks like it might be distortedly long in that picture, but that really is a 100 foot long driveway, as we have to be 100 feet from the road.  I am so glad we don’t have to do a drive from the front.  That had to be one pricey driveway.

We tried to go by and introduce ourselves yesterday, but I don’t know if the new family has moved in yet or perhaps an investor bought it and is sitting on it.  We shall see.

Keep checking back as I plan to use this blog to help share my ideas with my friends and family to get an idea what they think as the house progresses.

A little slice of land …

land-1

So, we bought the land for the site of our new house…. We have chosen and plan and now its time to start all the fun stuff!! Its a really long lot (about 300 feet deep).  The little tree filled area is where the house will go.   More to come.  I am thinking I will probably do a companion blog for all the house stuff.

Okay — so its 2009!

New Years Bling

(this hilarious New years bling necklace I bummed off a fellow at the party we attended).

After our long, but very safe and low-key drive home from Missouri, I am sitting here trying to get organized for 2009, the new year, the kids going back to school, etc.

Yes, I am one of those people that loves having the clean slate of the new year. A new chance to set out to do all those things you had high hopes of doing in the last year. January (besides my hubby’s coaching) is usually a quiet month for us. Which I relish after the proceeding holiday months.

Last month I found a great site full of organizational/planning stuff. Despite many tries at using on line organizing calendars and programs, I am still a big fan of paper. I like checking things off lists, I like carrying the lists from place to place. And I also enjoy keeping them to look back on.

So when I came across the planners at Productive Flourishing Blog I was really pumped.   There is everything from daily and weekly planners to blog and project planners.  Exactly what I needed.  I used them through the last weeks of December and was thrilled with how much I accomplished with them.  If you are trying to get your life organized… definitely check them out.

Ok, back to organizing.

Happy Holidays

We are having a wonderful time in Springfield, Missouri (my hometown) for the holidays.  Sorry I don’t have any pictures to share yet uploaded, but we have been taking tons and having a wonderful time.  We all have to work a few days this week then it is time to ring in the New Year.

Happy 2009!

No high fructose corn syrup to be found…

storefront_3081

I made a trip down to one of my favorite grocery stores this morning, Earthfare,  it originated in NC and is in the south. LOVE this store. I was reading over their flyers on their web site and came across their new policy — there are no products in the whole store with high fructose corn syrup (read more here). I thought this was a really cool policy, and it makes shopping there really easy, since you pretty much know everything is good for you. Their deli is by far the best part, we got some amazing mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, and they even make Vegan cupcakes. I didn’t realize they also have a really yummy looking salad bar/brunch there as well. Going to have to do that some time. I opted to get their fresh squeezed juice — carrot, apple, ginger, parsley. Sounds gross, but its quite good and wakes you up!

Surfing the net I also found this really cool system for to-do lists. There is even one for blog posting, if you want to get organized about it.

December List

decorating the tree

My list of things I would like to manage to do for the holidays:

  1. Finish getting the tree done and takes some pix of decorating it.
  2. Bake the annual cookies, try to have girls friends over.
  3. Take time to really do some cute crafty gift wrapping.
  4. Christmas cards to a few friends.
  5. Go to Phelps place and south Park to see the holiday decor.
  6. Take some meaningful holiday pictures.
  7. Hopefully weather permitting we get to drive home for the holidays!
  8. Go see a festively done up/lit up neighborhood.
  9. Make real Egg Nog.
  10. Watch Heat mister/cold miser and some other holiday favorites.

I think this booth of Anna Marie’s is fantastic. I love the huge photographs on the wall detailing her sewing projects.  You can see more of the booth here.

If I had $400 to blow…

cover

format4

I would buy this camera. Isn’t it amazing how the cameras we desire now, are the artsy 35 mm and 120 film cameras. Just reading the description of this camera … sigh. It can do panoramics with sprocket holes, 120 film, or 35 mm film. The Lubitel Universal 166+ ….

Lubitel+ pictures have their very own look and special analog character. They’re more “professional” than any 35mm camera, but less professional than a Hasselblad. Of course they are sharp, crispy, artistic, painted with light, and grand. But they’re also occasionally random, sometimes too vibrant, often vignetted at the edges, and totally flexible to your wishes and innovative tinkering. Rather than reflecting the objective reality in front of you, they reflect the subjective reality of the Lomographer behind the camera. They will make you look twice.

Yet, my holga sits all forlone on the shelf beside me wondering why I still have film I haven’t taken with it. (well, the main reason is I never realized how outrageously expensive it was to process 120 film, despite its coolness). We are so spoiled in the digital age. We have forgotten how expensive our photography habits USED to be. Still kills me that the same camera store that charged 0.50 cents a photo in 2004, now barely charges 0.25.

A girl can dream. …
